Advancing My Nephrology Journey at ASN Kidney Week in Houston

Four days at Kidney Week 2025 offered a concentrated dive into cutting-edge nephrology, meaningful discussions, and fresh directions that will shape the next steps of my PhD research

From November 6 to 9, 2025, I had the opportunity to attend Kidney Week 2025, the annual meeting of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), held in Houston, Texas. Over four intensive days, this flagship event in nephrology brought together several thousand researchers, clinicians, and early-career scientists from around the world to share major advances in both basic and clinical kidney research.

My participation took place within the framework of the Kidney ST★R (STARS) Program, a highly selective initiative supported by ASN and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, designed to foster interest and long-term engagement in nephrology among students and young researchers. It provides a $1,500 travel grant, free registration, and personalized scientific support throughout the meeting.

As a PhD student at the INEM – Institut Necker Enfants Malades in Paris, Kidney Week 2025 represented a valuable opportunity to deepen my scientific knowledge, discover emerging concepts, and gain exposure to innovative methodological approaches in kidney research.

Beyond the scientific richness of the program — plenary lectures, thematic sessions, and poster presentations — what stood out most were the informal conversations between sessions. These spontaneous exchanges with established investigators, clinicians, and fellow trainees offered new perspectives on my own research and sparked questions that I am eager to pursue upon returning to the lab.
